Mapping Images

How to handle dynamic images in PowerPoint templates for priint cloud rendering?

  • Add a picture placeholder to the layout and give it a unique name
  • Add optional picture styling to the placeholder shape.
  • Set the XML data for an image using a <placeholder name="MY_IMAGE" content="imageLocation"/>

Image location will in most cases be a remote URL. But it can also be a local image file.

Hint: Static images should be loaded directly into the master layout and saved with the PowerPoint pptx file.

Image scaling and positioning depend on the image placeholder shape styling inside PowerPoint.

Remote Images

  • Remote image locations are URLs starting with https:.
  • Remote images are loaded via the MediaProxy in priint cloud.
  • Remote images require a valid MediaProxy configuration in the renderpptx/mediaproxy/config.ion file. The MediaProxy configuration is the same as for renderpdf.

During PowerPoint rendering the resources are downloaded from the Internet and cached locally within the current priint cloud rendering process. The same mediaproxy configuration rules as for renderpdf apply. You can configure the HTTP access within the mediaproxy/config.ion file. The downloaded resource is then used to replace the default image content from the master layout. The same process applies as if you would use the Change Picture command from the context menu in PowerPoint.

Local Images

  • Local image locations are URLs starting with images/.
  • Images in images/ are loaded from the powerpoint/images/ folder of the renderpptx project.

Local images are useful if you already know a small set of images that will be used in presentation instances, but you not exactly which image is used in which presentation. For instance, flag icons to indicate the availability of a product in different countries.

You should keep the project size small. So, local image are only recommended for small sets of small-sized images.
